eVisa to Kenya

What is a Kenya eVisa?
The Kenya visa is an electronic travel authorization (also known as an e-visa) granted by the Kenyan government. This travel authorization is mandatory; Travelers without a valid visa are not allowed into the country. The visa is available in a business and tourist variant. With the Kenya visa it is allowed to stay in the country for a one-off up to 90 days.
There are three e-visa types for people traveling to the Republic of Kenya temporarily.
Single Entry visa
Issued for single entry to persons whose nationalities require a visa to enter Kenya either for business, tourism or medical reasons.
Transit visa
Issued to persons connecting through Kenya to other destinations for a period not exceeding 72 hours. Those connecting flights directly without leaving the airport don’t need to apply for Transit visas.( Source:
Courtesy visa
Issued to Diplomatic, Official and Service passport holders coming into the country on official duties, or transiting through Kenya to a third country for official business or duties. It is also issued to government officials and dignitaries on official duties but holding ordinary passports. It is issued free of charge.
Conditions and requirements of the eVisa
There are a number of conditions that travelers must meet in order to apply for the Kenya visa. These can be broken down into conditions that are important during the application and conditions that apply during the trip to Kenya.
Conditions for eligibility for the visa:
All travelers (including children) must have their own passport; it must be valid for at least 6 months at the time of arrival and must contain at least one blank page.
You are only allowed to arrive in Kenya at one of the 10 selected airports, 10 selected seaports or 11 selected border crossings that can be found on the conditions page of the Kenya visa.
Prior to applying for the visa, the day of arrival and departure must be known and at least one night must have been booked in Kenya.
One of the documents below must be supplied online:
A booking confirmation for the return flight (flight schedule / itinerary), or
A booking confirmation for an overnight stay, or
An invitation letter from a Kenyan organization or resident
Conditions to be met by travelers during a stay in Kenya:
Travelers must print both the visa and the bookings of the return or follow-on flight and the first night and keep it with their passport for the entire journey
Travelers can enter Kenya once with the visa for a maximum stay of 90 days
Travelers may not enter employment with a Kenyan employer without additional authorization
Travelers must not pose a threat to security and law enforcement in Kenya
Who needs an eVisa?
All foreign citizens wishing to travel to Kenya will need an evisa, except citizens from countries who are exempt. This list includes: Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Botswana, Brunei Burundi, Cyprus, Darussalam, Dominica, Ethiopia, Fiji, Gambia, Ghana, Grenada, Jamaica, Kiribati, Lesotho, Malawi, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Namibie, Nauru, Papua, New Guinea, Rwanda, St Kitts & Nevis, St Lucia, Saint Vincent & the Grenadines, Samoa, San Marino, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Tonga, Trinidad & Tobago, Tuvalu, Ugandu, Vanuatu, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
How does applying for the Kenya eVisa work?
The procedure consists of three simple steps. First of all, complete the Kenya visa application form. You then pay for the visa, which can be done by iDeal, Bancontact, PayPal or credit card. Finally, you will be asked to upload a passport photo, a passport scan and a booking confirmation. After the application has been fully submitted, the application is checked for completeness and frequently made mistakes. If any input errors or omissions are suspected, you will be contacted immediately so that you can correct the application. After granting, the Kenya visa will be sent by email.
Validity Kenyan eVisa
An evisa to Kenya once issued is valid for 3 months before you travel. Once you present yourself to immigration control at the port of entry, you may be issued with a stay period not exceeding 90 days, which may be renewed for a further 90 days at the immigration headquarters. The maximum number of days a visitor may stay in Kenya is 6 months.
An example: you apply for your visa on 1 September 2019. The visa is valid for 90 days. It is then permitted to travel to Kenya for 90 days on 1 November 2019.
There are some situations where the validity of the visa for Kenya may expire prematurely, so earlier than 90 days after the time of arrival. This can occur in the following situations:
The passport of the traveler is valid for less than 6 months upon arrival
An employee of the immigration service suspects that you do not comply with the visa conditions
The local authorities suspect that a traveler does not comply with local legislation
The return flight takes place earlier
